Located across Fukuyama City in eastern Hiroshima Prefecture and Kasaoka City in western Okayama Prefecture, the JFE Steel West Japan Works Fukuyama District is responsible for logistics operations, a crucial role within the steelworks, including the unloading and transportation of imported steelmaking raw materials and the loading and transportation of exported steel products. We play a vital, behind-the-scenes role in creating the "steel" that is so integral to our daily lives.

Please tell me your main cargo handling duties.
Our main cargo consists of raw materials necessary for steelmaking (coal and iron ore). Almost all of these raw materials are imported from overseas by large ships, and unloaded onto land using cranes and heavy machinery along the coast. We also handle and ship cement raw materials (slag) generated during the steelmaking process, as well as steel products such as pipes and coils (thin sheets wound for use in car bodies), rails and H-beams, and chemical products known as intermediate raw materials (tar, pitch, benzene, toluene, and xylene), demonstrating our wide range of activities.
What kind of characteristics do successful people possess?
There are mainly nine departments, covering a variety of industries. However, due to its nature, there are few tasks that can be done alone; teamwork and collaboration are essential. Those who excel within this organization are typically proactive communicators who act as mood-makers, engaging even those who are less communicative. They possess the ability to listen to others' opinions and share information, allowing them to overcome challenges with a positive mindset and involve everyone in the work.
Are there any events or community involvement unique to this location?
We hold a New Year's party that is open to everyone, not only from within the company but also from partner companies we work with within the group. The purpose of the party is to strengthen bonds and encourage everyone involved to work together as one for the year ahead. We also hold bowling tournaments, which allow us to see a side of each other that we don't usually see at work and enjoy interacting with each other.
As a way to connect with the local community, we participate in the JFE Festa held every May, and we express our gratitude by selling fried chicken, potatoes, and other items at low prices, which has been well received. It makes us happy when people tell us that our food is delicious.
