Features of the Tomakomai Branch
As a base in Hokkaido's largest logistics region
Tomakomai Port is designated as an "international hub port," and its cargo handling volume is among the highest in the country, accounting for half of Hokkaido's total cargo volume, making it a crucial hub. As the largest logistics hub in Hokkaido, it boasts overwhelming transportation capacity, and in addition to its geographical advantage of covering the entire region, its good access to the Sapporo area makes it a distribution center with hub functions.
Furthermore, its proximity to New Chitose Airport allows for flexible handling of urgent cargo and integrated transportation involving sea, land, and air.

I asked people who actually work there.
Please tell me your main cargo handling duties.
Our main cargo consists of feed ingredients supplied to feed factories in the Tomakomai area. Bulk cargo such as corn and imported wheat, which are the main raw materials, are stored in silos, while bulk raw materials such as wheat bran, collected from the Kanto region and within Hokkaido, are stored in open warehouses, each handled appropriately.
Furthermore, we handle a large volume of government-funded rice, which is stored securely in temperature-controlled warehouses within multi-story buildings using flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs). In addition, as Hokkaido is one of Japan's leading grain-producing regions, the volume of food cargo handled, including wheat, soybeans, and Hokkaido rice, is on the rise.
