Sustainability Management

Basic Approach to Sustainability
Japan imports a large amount of goods, energy, and industrial raw materials that support daily life, including clothing, food, and shelter. It is also a major trading nation with a thriving export of industrial products, such as automobiles, and its total trade volume is approximately 1.7 times the national budget (general account). 99.7% of import and export cargo is transported by ship, and port transportation and warehousing for this cargo are extremely important infrastructure supporting daily life and industry.
As the leading port logistics company, holding the top market share in handling volume at Japan's six major ports, we believe it is our mission to continue and develop our business in order to deliver what society needs.
To achieve this, it is essential not only to build better relationships with stakeholders such as shareholders, customers, partners, employees, and local communities, but also to further strengthen environmental considerations, legal compliance, safety, and governance.
With both societal sustainability and corporate sustainability in mind, we aim to explore the creation of new value that can enrich society more than ever before.
Promotion system
To accelerate our commitment to sustainability management through strengthening our governance structure, our group established a Sustainability Committee in November 2023. The committee, chaired by the President and CEO, considers sustainability policies and measures, manages the progress of materiality-related targets, and submits or reports its findings to the Board of Directors.
Furthermore, the Board of Directors oversees the sustainability implementation system by providing opinions and instructions to the Committee for consideration.
Value Creation Process Diagram
Kamigumi's value creation stems from the technology and wisdom cultivated in the field of port transportation, which has been the foundation since its founding, and from continuous investment in facilities and equipment that maximize these capabilities.
This robust business foundation generates stable cash flow, which in turn fuels efficient investments in growth areas, creating a virtuous cycle of enhanced competitiveness and the generation of new cash. Our medium-term management plan outlines a path to achieving this "cycle of growth investment and resilient assets," enabling us to balance solving social issues with corporate growth.
Furthermore, the phrase "To become a leader in the evolution and co-creation of ports," which is stated in our vision, embodies our strong desire to view ports not merely as gateways, but as "starting points" that connect the entire logistics process. By collaborating with diverse partners through "co-creation" that transcends competition, and by orchestrating the entire logistics process, we aim to unlock previously unseen "possibilities" for logistics. And beyond that, we have drawn a powerful vision of what we want to be as a comprehensive logistics company that designs the future of logistics.

Safety and health policy
The Central Safety and Health Council Secretariat annually sets out a company-wide safety and health activity policy that includes an annual slogan, key objectives, and priority implementation items. Each block and each store then plans its annual safety and health activities based on this policy. Activities include a company-wide meeting hosted by the Central Safety and Health Council to review the progress of each block's initiatives, as well as to analyze the causes of accidents and industrial injuries and share measures to prevent recurrence. Each block holds four safety and health meetings annually, primarily focused on patrols. The secretariat conducts safety inspections targeting businesses with deficiencies in their safety systems, such as stores with a high accident rate. Depending on the inspection results, improvement guidance forms are issued to encourage corrections to the safety management systems of the businesses, including their partner companies. Furthermore, during national activity periods such as "National Safety Week," each business reports the results of its safety activities to the secretariat, which then evaluates the activities.
